Frequently Asked Questions

Why RED 1?
When we started this project, we asked ourselves what the keys to our success were and it boiled down to being Reliable, Efficient, add to that a Determination to be the best or number 1. Hence RED 1!

Why did you choose the ATR 72-500?
With our network that averages 250 Nautical Miles, the ATR is the lowest cost producer in its class by a huge margin! It is also more fuel efficient and has an incredibly high dispatch reliability of 99.6%.
It is the quietest turbo prop in the world, giving our customers Regional Jet comfort at Turbo Prop prices.
Plus, in this era of environmental consciousness, we are proud to do our part using the “GREENEST aircraft in the world”

Who is going to maintain your fleet?
Who better than the people who built the airplanes? We expect to leverage off of our proximity and close relationship to ATR in developing our maintenance program. We are also hoping to build a 10,000 Sq Meter maintenance and training facility at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

Will the airline offer two classes of service?
No. Every seat on our aircraft will offer a level of comfort and service that is better than exists in the market today. Arguably, with a 2×2 configuration with no middle seats, every customer will receive business class comfort at regular economy prices. Every1’s a VIP at RED 1!!!

Where will your base of operations be?
The company’s headquarters will be in Abuja. Operationally, we do not intend to operate a hub and spoke network, unlike others who have chosen to focus the majority of their flight activity at a few airports. Our goal is to serve airports that are currently underserved.

Can the Nigerian market accommodate yet another airline?
Absolutely!!!!

Despite significant fare increases recently, Nigerian passenger traffic grew nearly 12% in the last year. The macroeconomic conditions make us confident this growth will continue, probably even accelerate. Stable inflation, strong currency and growing availability of consumer credit also help.
By offering new service, we intend to create more customers and stimulate demand overall. We intend to leverage a smaller aircraft to profitably offer nonstop service to smaller underserved markets and with greater frequency.

How is the Nigerian airline market different?
Average airfares here in Nigeria are over 150-300% higher than they are in the United States or Europe over an equivalent distance. In other parts of the world, airlines have passed lower costs through to consumers in the form of lower fares, which has resulted in significant demand stimulation for air travel.
We believe the time is right to bring that model to Nigeria and that by offering more direct and more frequent service than exists today, we believe that overall demand for air travel will increase.

I want to work for the new airline. Are you hiring?
Absolutely. Among the important features of RED1X.com is a “work here” section where anyone can submit their credentials for possible employment with our company. We’re looking for motivated, hard working, individuals who can grow with us. If this might be you, we encourage you to continue visiting our website.
